Dear Dr. Haskin,
I have schizophrenia. I have been taking Zyprexa for many years, and I lowered my daily dosage on December 2024 because of possible side effects.
Around April 2025, I experienced another delusional episode. It seems my condition deteriorated because of the lower dosage. I was admitted to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital on April 22, 2025 (click here for hospital admission record), and later received a letter from you informing me that I would no longer be allowed to visit Fairbanks Family Dental Care.
Around October 23, 2025, the bridge placed by you broke. I was charged $3,507.41 for the bridge on November 8, 2022 by Fairbanks Family Dental Care, and at that time, Fairbanks Family Dental Care informed me that the warranty is:
100% – 1st year
.75% – 2nd year
.50% – 3rd year
I knew the bridge was still under the 50% warranty. However, I could not return to Fairbanks Family Dental Care because I had been told I was no longer allowed to come.
As a result, I had to pay over $3,253.92 (click here for new bridge bill) for a new bridge on October 27, 2025.
I am having a very difficult time due to dental expenses that began with the extraction of #31.
For #31, I had to pay $300 to Dr. Vargas for a 3D X-ray, $1,411.08 to Dr. Hompesch for the implant, and $1,287.23 to Dr. Bauer for the crown.

Recently, I received an email from Fairbanks Family Dental Care stating that I owe $1,231.55.
I kindly request that you please waive this balance, considering the warranty on the bridge that did not last three years. It broke in October 23, 2025 and did not even last the full three-year period.
Below is a list of all dental expenses beginning with the bridge placed at Fairbanks Family Dental Care in Nov 2022:
- $3,507.41 – Bridge, Fairbanks Family (11/08/22)
- $..300.00 – Dr. Vargas (#31 – 3D X-Ray)
- $1,411.08 – #31 Implant by Dr. Hompesch
- $1,287.23 – #31 Crown by Dr. Bauer
- $3,253.92 – Bridge replacement by Dr. Bauer (10/27/25)
- —————————
- $9,759.64 – TOTAL
At the moment, I am living on a Social Security check. My CareCredit is maxed out at $3,300, and I owe more than $653.92 to Dr. Bauer, which I could not charge to CareCredit because it has reached the limit.
I am struggling severely due to close to $10,000 in dental expenses.
Considering that the bridge was still under warranty, I respectfully request that you waive the $1,231.55 balance I owe. Had I been allowed to return to Fairbanks Family Dental Care, I could have used the warranty discount and paid much less. However, because I could not return, I had no other choice but to pay an additional $3,253.92 on October 27, 2025 for a new bridge elsewhere.
Please accept my apology for the disturbance I caused at Fairbanks Family Dental Care when I was in a delusional state. I am truly sorry for the trouble, and I ask for your understanding regarding my medical condition and financial situation.
Sincerely,
John Kim
